Hosni Adra

Hosni Adra is a Partner at CreateASoft Corporation and Product Manager for their Simcad Pro simulation tool. He has been involved in Lean transition and implementation for the last 6 years. Hosni has presented multiple papers on the use of simulation in a variety of industries to deploy Lean and sustain the systems and procedures that were justified using simulation.

Frans Carlstrom

Frans Carlstrom is the Operations Manager for D & S Manufacturing in Black River Falls, WI. Frans has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology with concentrations in Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Control from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Frans has fifteen years of experience in a jobshop environment, specializing in high-mix, low-volume production. D & S Manufacturing is a medium-sized steel manufacturing company and is currently transforming from a traditional jobshop to a Lean manufacturing facility.

John Custer

Dr. John Custer, Ph.D., P.E., is a Mechanical Engineer, and leads Major Tool & Machine, Inc.’s implementation team for Lean processes. In addition, he is responsible for Sales, Engineering and Process Improvement. John has been with Major Tool for five years. Prior to joining Major Tool, he worked as a Quality Engineer in the automotive stamping industry and, in the in automotive seating industry, as both a QE (Quality Engineer) and Designer. The largest part of his industrial career has been in the gas turbine industry, where he worked in aircraft, industrial, and utility-sized gas turbines. His original exposure to contemporary QE came at the Allison Gas Turbine Division of General Motors. At Allison, he was involved in Robust Design using Taguchi Methods and Quality Function Deployment. Prior to joining Allison, he was an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Huffman

Nathan Huffman is currently pursuing a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a Minor in Business from The Ohio State University. For the past five years, he was one of two OSU campus representatives for Apple Computer. He has spent four years volunteering with the Ohio Union Activities Board, designing advertisements for concerts and working hospitality for performers. He first gained experience with JobshopLean concepts while working with Kenyon's Stained Glass Co. in Columbus, OH. His experience continued with an internship at a custom forge shop in Mansfield, TX, where he applied Lean Tooling concepts to reduce production lead times. Nathan is a member of ASQ and IIE.

Lisa Huntsman

Lisa Huntsman is the Vice President of Operations and Co-General Manager at Lauren Manufacturing in New Philadelphia, OH. She has been with the company for over 13 years serving in the capacity of their Technical Director and Cut Cell Business Unit Leader prior to her current position. Lisa was directly involved in the transformation of Lauren from a traditional batch-and-queue rubber manufacturer to a single piece flow producer using the company’s value streams to establish the company’s current business unit structure. Lauren’s decision to transform its business operating philosophy was done with a unionized labor force. In just four years since the launch of Lean, Lauren has grown its top line sales revenue by 50% while operating income has increased over 100%. The removal of over $2 million dollars of inventory took the company from a stagnant 12 to 31 inventory turns. Lisa holds a B.S. in Polymer Science and Coating Technology from Eastern Michigan University as well as her MBA from Ashland University. She resides in North Canton, OH, with her husband and two teenage sons.

Shahrukh Irani

Dr. Shahrukh A. Irani is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial, Welding and Systems Engineering in the College of Engineering at Ohio State University. He is the Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Interest Group (AMIG), a consortium that seeks to incorporate industry experience across the Industrial Engineering curriculum through a variety of engagements with Ohio manufacturers. In 1995-96, he worked in industry on a Faculty Internship that was partially supported by the Grant Opportunities for Academic Liaison (GOALI) program of the National Science Foundation. Dr. Irani is the Editor of the Handbook of Cellular Manufacturing Systems published in 1999 by John Wiley. In 1996, Dr. Irani was voted Young Engineer of the Year by the Minnesota Federation of Engineering Societies and the Minneapolis Chapter of the Institute of Industrial Engineers. He served as the Director of the Facilities Planning and Design (FAPAD) division of the Institute of Industrial Engineers for 1999-2001 and 2001-2003.

Jeff Kuhn

Jeff Kuhn is the Director of Continuous Manufacturing at Lauren Manufacturing. He graduated from Clarion University, PA, in 1989 with a BS in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing. He has 17 years experience in a variety of manufacturing environments (metal forming, metal stamping, assembly and rubber extrusion). Prior to his current position, he held positions of Production Manager and Plant Manager. Jeff has 10 years experience in Lean Manufacturing (8 years with the Wiremold Company and 2 years with Lauren Manufacturing). His kaizen experience was facilitated by the Japanese consulting company, Shingijitsu. Currently, he is training for Six Sigma Black Belt certification.

Steven Marley

Steven Marley is a Project Consultant with the CH2M Hill Lean Enterprise Solutions Group. Steven has over 30 years industry experience with manufacturing and supply chain systems, specializing in operations analysis, productivity improvement, and the design of both conventional and automated material handling and storage systems. Steven is a graduate of Tri-State University, Angola, IN.

Brian Mayer

Brian Mayer is a Senior at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University majoring in Industrial and Systems Engineering. This past summer he participated in a 3-month internship funded by the Navy at their Southeast Regional Maintenance Center (SERMC) in Mayport, FL. He was part of a first-ever initiative to explore the potential for Cellular Manufacturing and JobshopLean in a ship MRO facility. Brian teamed with SERMC’s Lean Champion and participated in kaizens that were conducted in several shops during his tenure. Currently, he is participating in a year-long co-op in Pittsburgh, PA with H.B. Maynard and Co., Inc., an international consulting, software, and training business dedicated to providing innovative solutions to improve workforce performance and eliminate waste

Charles Murgiano

Charlie is a principal with Waterloo Manufacturing Software (WMS) and works in the areas of customer support, consulting, and sales. He has more than fifteen years experience helping clients apply manufacturing decision support software. Prior to joining WMS, Charlie was a consulting manager at AT&T ISTEL. Prior to joining AT&T ISTEL, Charlie was an operations manager for TRW. Charlie received his MBA, his MEng in Operations Research, and his BS in Engineering, all from Cornell University.

Jason Premo

Jason P. Premo joined nMetric®, software provider of the patented 4C@SITE® Lean Production Scheduling and Manufacturing Execution System, in 2004 as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Jason brings to nMetric over 10 years of experience in manufacturing having served in a variety of Engineering, Project Management, Team Leadership, Plant Management and Senior Executive roles for companies as large as $4 billion and as small as $40 million in revenue. Jason holds a BS degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA and is a certified Lean Manufacturing-Kaizen Facilitator and Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Jason is a frequent guest speaker at many industry events and conferences presenting on a wide variety of topics from practical Lean-Six Sigma implementation to the latest real-time enterprise information technology trends and best practices.

Gregory Quinn

Gregory Quinn is the President of Quinn & Associates Inc., the master reseller in North America of Preactor, the world’s leading Production Planning and Scheduling system. Before starting Quinn & Associates, Mr. Quinn worked for over 25 years in several companies, including Rockwell International, HRB Singer, E-Systems and Raytheon. This gave him experience with a wide variety of manufacturing systems, ranging from high-volume repetitive to limited-run Engineer-To-Order. Greg has a BS in General Mathematics and a dual MS in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. 

Daniel Rediger

Daniel Rediger recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering. He had previously been a co-op with Rolls-Royce in Indianapolis, IN, where he participated in their Operations Rotational Program. Earlier, while taking classes towards his degree, he also worked as a Business Process Improvement intern at Columbus Children's Hospital. Upon graduation, he hired into the Operations Leadership Development Program at Rolls-Royce. He will pursue his MS degree in Project Management from Penn State University this Fall.

Adam Sanders

Adam Sanders is currently a Process Engineer at Lauren Manufacturing. He is a 2004 graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Adam currently serves on the Safety Committee at Lauren, and is a member of their Die Technology Team. Past experience includes production scheduling, machine design, 5S and computer-aided business process execution.

Sidney Schaaf

Sidney “Sid” Schaaf is currently employed as a Senior Project Engineer for W.A. Whitney, specializing in fabricating machinery and automation. Sid earned his MS in Industrial Management from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL, while employed by W.A. Whitney. Prior to his current employment, Sid worked as a Process Control Engineer/Supervisor for GENCOR Industries where he earned his BSEET from the University of Central Florida, FL, which feeds NASA and the Space Coast. Collectively, Sid has over 28 years experience in manufacturing systems and automation. He also shares a patent on an automatic loading device used within the fabricating and automation sectors of manufacturing.

John Schott

John Schott is currently pursuing a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering with a Minor in Business from The Ohio State University. He is an active member of ASQ and IIE and also a part-time scuba and CPR instructor. He first gained experience with JobshopLean concepts while working with Kenyon's Stained Glass Co. in Columbus, OH. His experience continued with an internship at a custom forge shop in Mansfield, TX, where he applied Lean Tooling concepts to reduce production lead times.

Ron Smithfield

Ron Smithfield is the President of Smithfield Manufacturing, Inc., a 35-person family-owned precision machining company in Clarksville, TN, specializing in small-to-medium quantities (1-20,000) of parts and assemblies for automotive, medical, valve, wheel balancers, off-road equipment, and military. He has been applying Lean Thinking since 1995 in his plant. From 1967-1995, in addition to being the President of Smithfield Industries, Inc., he wore other hats (VP-Operations, Quality Manager and Purchasing Manager) and implemented JIT best practices throughout his organization. His company was chosen as the "Factory of the Future" for TN in 1988. Ron has a BS in Chemistry and an MS in Medicinal Chemistry, both from the University of Tennessee. He is an active member of the National Association of Manufacturers, the National Tooling and Machining Association, Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Tennessee Association of Manufacturers.
